About
About High Series
High Series is an ongoing succession of publications, initiated by photographer Johannes Schwartz in collaboration with graphic designers Experimental Jetset. The series started in 2003 with High Noon, published on the occasion of a group exhibition that took place at Centraal Museum, Utrecht. Since then, selected exhibitions of Johannes Schwartz have been accompanied by a new instalment in the series, always designed by Experimental Jetset. Until now, the project consists of High Noon (2003), High Nature (2004), High Light (2005), High Rise (2005), High Resolution (2007), High Ideals (2008), High Land (2009), High Reflex (2010) and High Value (2011).
Although every issue has been published on the occasion of a specific exhibition, the publications should not be seen as representations of these exhibitions. The publication doesn't function as a catalogue, reproducing work that can be seen elsewhere in the show - instead, the publication is an integral part of the exhibition, functioning as an added dimension to the space.
The working process is always similar: Johannes Schwartz provides Experimental Jetset with one set, or several sets, of photographs, after which Experimental Jetset compiles these photographs in a publication, exploring and emphasizing the underlying theme(s). The size of each issue is always 24 x 33 cm - however, the amount of pages, as well as the way of printing, folding and binding is always different. In that sense, the High Series is an active investigation into the various ways of reproducing photography.
